Consecutive Interpreting

Perfect for press conferences, presentations, and formal meetings

Consecutive interpreting is one of the most traditional, and perhaps the most elegant, forms of interpreting.
Here, the speaker talks for a few minutes, while I listen attentively and take structured notes, then I reproduce their message in the target language, preserving tone, intent, and style.

This form of interpreting values accuracy, clarity, and nuance. It’s not just about conveying words, but also meaning, emotion, and the speaker’s unique voice.

Although it takes a little longer than simultaneous interpreting, it creates a more human, personal connection between the speaker and their audience. It’s therefore ideal for settings where trust and empathy matter.

Recommended for official meetings, public addresses, press conferences, round tables, institutional events, and business presentations where every word counts.

Where is the interpreter positioned during consecutive interpretation?
The interpreter is usually seated or standing next to the non-native speaker. This allows for optimal listening and, when needed, brief whispered exchanges (chuchotage) to relay questions from the audience, before delivering the full consecutive interpretation to the room.
Do I need to pause after every sentence to allow for interpretation?
No. Professional interpreters are trained to listen, retain and accurately reproduce structured speeches of five minutes or more, while preserving meaning, tone and nuance. You can speak naturally, without stopping after each sentence.
